Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow is a gorgeous piece of gothic filmmaking that prioritizes atmosphere over logic and is better for it. The production design and Lubezki's cinematography create a storybook horror world that feels immersive. Depp and Ricci are well-matched and Christopher Walken's Hessian is an unnerving screen presence.

Synopsis

Ichabod Crane approaches the murders as a man of science in a town that has already identified the culprit. Tim Burton uses the material as an occasion for extraordinary production design rather than narrative coherence, and Lubezki's cinematography gives the fog-covered village a consistency the plot occasionally lacks. Christopher Walken's Hessian has almost no dialogue and is still the most memorable thing in the film.
