Why it’s HorroRated
Vacant earns its dread from atmosphere rather than set pieces, which is the harder trick to pull off in a short indie horror game. The motel setting is used well and the sense that something is off permeates every interaction before anything explicitly goes wrong. A compact, confident piece of lo-fi horror from Windy worth your time if the genre appeals to you.
Synopsis
On a long drive to a new city, you pull over at a roadside motel for the night. The host seems normal enough at first. Then small inconsistencies start accumulating. VACANT is a short first-person horror experience that leans on mood and slow-burn unease rather than jump scares.
