Why it’s HorroRated
Interview with the Vampire is lush and melancholy and takes its material seriously in ways the genre rarely does. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are both effective and Kirsten Dunst as Claudia delivers one of the more unsettling child performances in 90s horror. It's more gothic drama than pure horror but it holds up beautifully.
Synopsis
Louis de Pointe du Lac recounts his history from colonial Louisiana through the present, covering his creation, his long and complicated partnership with Lestat, and the child Claudia who permanently altered their arrangement. Neil Jordan treats it as a genuine literary adaptation and resists any urge to play it ironically. Kirsten Dunst as Claudia is the film's most unsettling element.
