Why it’s HorroRated

Big summer sequels rarely hold up this well. Scheider plays Brody as a cop the town refuses to believe twice, and his frayed nerves give the film real tension on land, while the open-water attacks on the teenage regatta are staged with sunny, muscular confidence. It lacks the original's character magic, and the shark gets more screen time than it needs, but John Williams' music and the big finale deliver. A terrific popcorn double bill with the first film.

Synopsis

Amity's police chief can't shake the feeling it's happening again in Jaws 2 (1978), Jeannot Szwarc's sequel to Steven Spielberg's blockbuster, with Roy Scheider back as Martin Brody and Lorraine Gary and Murray Hamilton returning as his wife and the town's mayor. This time a great white closes in on a fleet of teenagers out on their sailboats, with a young Keith Gordon making his screen debut.
