Why it’s HorroRated
Marcus Nispel's remake is a grimmer, more polished version of the source material that works better than most remakes of its era. Daniel Pearl returning as cinematographer gives it a visual continuity with the 1974 film. R. Lee Ermey as Sheriff Hoyt is menacing. A solid remake that understands what the original was actually about.
Synopsis
A group headed to a festival encounters a young woman who appears to have survived something significant, and her distress pulls them down a road ending near the Hewitt property. Marcus Nispel shoots the remake with a consistent visual grammar that separates it from the original without dismissing it. R. Lee Ermey as Sheriff Hoyt is a screen presence the film earns.
