Why it’s HorroRated
Blade is a superhero horror film that arrived before anyone knew that combination could work and proved it emphatically. Wesley Snipes is perfectly cast, bringing a physicality and cool that no one else could've replicated at the time. The opening rave sequence is still one of the best cold opens in 90s horror. It launched the modern era of Marvel adaptations and it's still one of the best ones.
Synopsis
The film opens with a vampire rave attack that functions as one of the decade's best action-horror cold opens. Wesley Snipes makes the character work through physicality and restraint and the mythology is delivered efficiently enough that the film never bogs down in its own lore. It launched the modern era of Marvel adaptations and is still one of the better ones.
