Why it’s HorroRated
Final Destination is built on a single excellent idea and executes it with real craft. Death as a system that corrects itself is smart and the opening plane sequence still works completely as a set piece. Devon Sawa is a strong lead and the film commits to its internal logic in ways that make the deaths feel inevitable rather than random. It launched a franchise for good reason.
Synopsis
Alex Browning sees the crash in enough detail to act on it, and the small group he inadvertently saves becomes a sequence something seems determined to complete. The concept is clean and the film executes it with inventive setups and real tension. Final Destination works because the internal logic is consistent and the deaths feel inevitable rather than arbitrary.
