The 2009 Friday reboot does the work it was designed to do. Nispel treats the mythology with enough respect to produce something that functions as both an origin story and a standalone slasher. Jason is more tactical here than in most franchise entries and that tactical quality keeps things interesting. A competent, unfussy reboot.
