Shadow in the Cloud is a genre mashup that should not work and mostly does. The wartime setting combined with creature horror and a feminist revenge narrative are held together by Chloe Grace Moretz committing completely to all three. The turret sequence in the first act is the film's most formally interesting piece of work.
