Why it’s HorroRated
The 2010 Nightmare on Elm Street remake is competent filmmaking applied to a story that had nothing left to say the first time through. Jackie Earle Haley is a real actor doing what he can with a reconceived Freddy but the mystery and texture of the original are completely absent. For franchise completionists and Haley completionists only.
Synopsis
A new group of Springfield teens begin dying in their sleep, connected by a shared preschool experience they don't consciously remember. Samuel Bayer's remake replaces Robert Englund with Jackie Earle Haley and reconceives Freddy as something more straightforwardly predatory. The original's atmosphere and character chemistry are both absent.
