Why it’s HorroRated
Annabelle is a step down from The Conjuring in craft and atmosphere but Annabel Wallis is solid in the lead and the doll design works. The backstory the film provides isn't particularly compelling but the haunting sequences have their moments. Worth watching if you're following the Conjuring universe and want the full picture.
Synopsis
The Conjuring spinoff extends the universe backward and fills in backstory around the doll's origin. James Wan does not direct this entry and the difference in atmospheric control is felt throughout.
