Candyman is a horror film with something real to say about belief, race, and how legends are born from pain. Tony Todd's performance is haunting, a villain who feels tragic and threatening at the same time. Bernard Rose's direction gives it a dreamlike quality that sets it apart from anything else in early 90s horror. A classic.
Synopsis
Helen's thesis on the Candyman takes her into Cabrini-Green where the legend is alive in ways her academic framework can't accommodate. Bernard Rose adapts Clive Barker's story with a visual sophistication and Tony Todd's performance together make this one of the more haunting films early 90s horror produced. A genuine classic.
