Why it’s HorroRated
Big questions drive this one, chiefly who made humanity and why, and Ridley Scott chases them with the scale and beauty of a true space epic. Michael Fassbender's David steals the film, courteous, curious and quietly unnerving in every scene. Noomi Rapace gives Elizabeth Shaw a stubborn faith that makes her a very different hero from Ripley, and one surgical sequence ranks among the series' most squirm-inducing moments. Some character decisions frustrate, and the mythology raises more questions than it settles, which is part of why fans still argue about it. Watch it for the visuals, Fassbender and a creeping cosmic dread.
Synopsis
Ancient cave paintings pointing to the same distant star system send the research ship Prometheus to the moon LV-223 in Prometheus (2012), Ridley Scott's return to the universe he began with Alien. Noomi Rapace and Logan Marshall-Green play archaeologists hoping to meet humanity's makers, with Michael Fassbender as the android David, Charlize Theron as a corporate overseer and Idris Elba as the ship's captain. The film mixes sci-fi epic scale with body horror and cosmic dread, setting up the events of Alien: Covenant.
