Why it’s HorroRated

Alien Covenant is a more interesting film than its reputation allows. Ridley Scott's David is one of modern science fiction horror's most compelling creations and the film's willingness to foreground an AI's relationship to creation and destruction over simple xenomorph terror is a real artistic choice. Divisive for exactly the right reasons.

Synopsis

The sequel to Prometheus moves the Engineer mythology toward a story about David's evolution and the xenomorph's origin. Ridley Scott's interest in artificial intelligence and creation outpaces the film's interest in the alien itself. The double David sequences are the film's most interesting formal choice. Divisive for exactly the right reasons.
