Why it’s HorroRated
Franklin, a devoted student of Hitchcock, essentially makes Rear Window on eighteen wheels, and it's clever, funny and deeply suspenseful. Keach is wonderful as a lonely, wisecracking driver who chats with his pet dingo and invents games to stay awake, and Curtis brings her usual spark. The vast highways feel open and suffocating at once, and the set pieces are staged with real wit. An overlooked gem that deserves a much bigger audience.
Synopsis
An American trucker turns amateur detective on the empty roads of the Australian outback in Roadgames (1981), Richard Franklin's Australian thriller starring Stacy Keach as a driver who suspects a fellow motorist is a serial killer. Jamie Lee Curtis co-stars as a hitchhiker who joins the hunt, from a script Franklin wrote with Everett De Roche.
