Why it’s HorroRated
Scream 2 is a competent follow-up that occasionally reaches the cleverness of the original. The meta-commentary on sequels is a smart angle and a few set pieces work very well. The killer reveal is weaker than the first film and the pacing loses momentum in the middle. A decent horror sequel that proves its own point about the difficulty of sequels.
Synopsis
The surviving characters from Scream reconvene at Windsor College as a Stab sequel opens and a copycat starts working through the cast of the first film. Craven and Williamson use the sequel format to comment on sequels while making one, which is slightly less clever the second time through. A few set pieces work well and the film respects its characters enough to maintain the emotional stakes.
