Why it’s HorroRated
Freddy's Nightmares is underseen and for fans of the franchise it's a real discovery. Freddy works as a host in the Tales from the Crypt mold and the Springwood setting gives the anthology a sense of place that most horror anthologies don't bother with. The quality varies considerably across the two-season run but the best episodes are legitimately fun and the show captures the mid-to-late 80s Elm Street energy better than most of the later films managed. A solid cult find.
Synopsis
Freddy hosts in the Tales from the Crypt mold, introducing standalone stories set in and around Springwood while Robert Englund handles the wry commentary between them. The premiere covers Freddy's original death at the hands of the Springwood parents and subsequent episodes branch outward into the townspeople he watches over. It has a specific late-80s horror television energy that franchise fans who haven't found it yet are going to enjoy.
