The 'Burbs is Joe Dante doing what he does best: hiding real darkness and sharp social commentary inside something that looks like a fun neighborhood comedy. Tom Hanks is at his comedic peak here and the whole cast lands perfectly. It has more to say about paranoia and mob mentality than it lets on. Gets better every time you watch it.
Synopsis
Ray's vacation turns into an obsession with the Klopeks, a family that has moved in next door and hasn't been seen in daylight. Joe Dante hides sharp social commentary inside what looks like a fun neighborhood comedy. Tom Hanks is at his comedic peak here and the whole cast lands. Gets better every single time you watch it.
