Why it’s HorroRated
The Human Centipede is a film built almost entirely around the horror of anticipation. Tom Six understands that the idea is more disturbing than any explicit depiction could be and he uses that gap productively. Dieter Laser as Dr. Heiter gives a performance that takes the material completely seriously. A film that earned its notoriety.
Synopsis
Dr. Heiter abducts three travelers and subjects them to a procedure he has apparently been developing in theory for some time. Tom Six builds the film almost entirely around a single idea and the audience's anticipation and experience of that idea. The concept is more disturbing than the execution, which is probably the honest thing to say about it.
