Why it’s HorroRated
A prison full of unarmed men, a single creature and no rescue coming: this chapter strips the series back to something bleak and grimy. The rust-colored foundry tunnels give it a look unlike any other entry, and Charles S. Dutton brings real gravity as the inmates' spiritual leader. It is uneven, the product of a famously troubled production, and the chase-heavy later stretch can blur together. Still, Sigourney Weaver plays Ripley at her most worn-down and defiant, and fans who prefer despair to firepower will find plenty to admire.
Synopsis
On Fiorina 161, a remote foundry and prison colony, Alien 3 (1992) strands Ellen Ripley among a small population of inmates after her escape craft crash-lands, with a creature loose and not a single gun on the planet. David Fincher made his feature directing debut here, with Sigourney Weaver returning opposite Charles S. Dutton and Charles Dance. The third Alien film swaps marines and gunfire for shaved heads, rusted corridors and a desperate improvised hunt.
