Why it’s HorroRated
An isolated Amish farm is a fresh backdrop for a series that spent years in suburban hallways, and Eubank shoots the open fields and dark outbuildings with more polish than found footage usually gets. Emily Bader makes Margot's curiosity easy to follow, even when it leads exactly where you'd warn her not to go. The scares lean on familiar cult-horror beats, and the documentary framing feels looser than in the early films. A good pick for rural folk-horror lovers who want a stand-alone entry with no homework required.
Synopsis
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin (2021) restarts the series with a new story, following documentary filmmaker Margot as she and her crew travel to a remote Amish community in search of her mother's relatives. William Eubank directed from Christopher Landon's screenplay, with Emily Bader in the lead. Released on Paramount+, it sticks with handheld cameras while trading suburban houses for an isolated farm and a turn toward folk horror.
