Why it’s HorroRated

Prom Night is a slow burn that takes its time getting to the kills, which isn't going to be for everyone. But Jamie Lee Curtis is really good here and the film has a disco-era atmosphere that's hard to replicate. It's not as tight as Halloween but as a snapshot of early 80s slasher filmmaking it absolutely earns its place.

Synopsis

A group of high schoolers has spent years quietly holding the weight of something that happened when they were kids. The film waits patiently through all the prom preparations before the accounting begins. Jamie Lee Curtis anchors it, and the disco-era atmosphere gives it an energy that dates it in exactly the right way.
