Why it’s HorroRated
Psycho changed everything and it did it by breaking every rule audiences thought they knew about how movies worked. Hitchcock takes you somewhere you're not expecting and then does it again. Anthony Perkins gave us Norman Bates and Norman Bates gave us modern horror. There's no version of this list that doesn't have this film on it.
Synopsis
Marion Crane makes an impulsive choice and winds up at the Bates Motel, the last stop before things go permanently wrong. Norman is polite, soft-spoken, and clearly struggling with something he can't name. Hitchcock builds the dread from the most ordinary materials imaginable, and it never stops working.
