Why it’s HorroRated
Psycho IV works as a character study more than a horror film and that's actually the right call. The flashbacks to young Norman and his mother are disturbing in ways the sequels hadn't managed. Henry Thomas is convincing as young Norman and Perkins brings the same careful sadness he's brought to the role throughout. A fitting, quiet conclusion.
Synopsis
Norman is living a quieter life with his new wife, but a call-in show about maternal violence unlocks a flood of memory about his childhood. The flashbacks are the film's main event, with Henry Thomas as young Norman and Olivia Hussey as his mother. A fitting conclusion that works as character study more than horror.
