Saw is a lean, ingenious piece of low-budget horror that launched one of the most successful franchises in the genre's history on a budget of $1.2 million. The bathroom set is one of horror's great locations and the film's twist is earned rather than cheap. James Wan and Leigh Whannell made something that feels inevitable in retrospect.
Synopsis
Dr. Lawrence Gordon and Adam Stanheight have until six o'clock to follow the instructions left for them or face consequences neither fully understands yet. James Wan constructs the film almost entirely from the single location and the growing understanding of what connects the two men. The twist was earned on first viewing and holds up to examination.
