The Thing 2011 prequel is a film whose failure is built into its concept. Trying to fill in the backstory of what the 1982 film left deliberately unexplained undercuts the original's most effective quality. Replacing practical effects with digital work removes the other half of what made Carpenter's film work. Worth watching once if you love the original, once.
