Why it’s HorroRated
Moving the curse into Chicago boardrooms and a cadet school gives the sequel a chilly, corporate edge the original never had, with Thorn Industries quietly preparing a future for its heir. William Holden and Lee Grant bring real gravitas, and Jonathan Scott-Taylor makes Damien's dawning self-awareness more unsettling than any of the death scenes. Those scenes are staged with grim ingenuity, though the plotting is more mechanical and the dread thinner than in Richard Donner's film. A worthy follow-up for anyone who loved the original and wants to watch the boy grow into the role.
Synopsis
Chicago and a military academy set the stage for Damien: Omen II (1978), which picks up seven years after The Omen as Damien Thorn, now thirteen, lives with his uncle Richard, head of the family's powerful corporation. Don Taylor directed, with William Holden and Lee Grant as the Thorns and Jonathan Scott-Taylor as a boy just beginning to learn what he is. Like the original, it builds its scares around elaborate, fateful accidents.
