Why it’s HorroRated
Animation frees Trachtenberg to stage fights live action could never afford, and he uses that freedom brilliantly: a brutal Viking raid, a near-silent castle infiltration and an aerial dogfight that ranks among the most inventive Predator sequences ever filmed. The painterly look, all bold color and sharp silhouettes, gives each era its own palette, and Benjamin Wallfisch's score shifts right along with them. Each story is short, so the characters are sketched rather than deep, yet Ursa, the warring brothers and Torres all leave a mark. Bloody, propulsive and done in under 90 minutes, it is a great pick for anyone who still thinks animation means kid stuff.
Synopsis
Three stories, three eras and one species of hunter make up Predator: Killer of Killers (2025), the franchise's first animated feature. Dan Trachtenberg directed alongside co-director Joshua Wassung, working from Micho Robert Rutare's script. Lindsay LaVanchy voices Ursa, a shield-bearing raider, Louis Ozawa voices both feuding brothers in feudal Japan, and Rick Gonzalez voices Torres, a World War II mechanic who gets his shot in a fighter plane, with Michael Biehn as his commander. The Third Floor handled the stylized animation, and the film premiered on Hulu.
