Masters of Horror gave John Carpenter, Dario Argento, Tobe Hooper, Joe Dante, Stuart Gordon, and a dozen other genre legends complete creative control over hour-long films and the results are as varied and as interesting as that lineup suggests. Some episodes are deeply strange, some are disturbing, and a few are essential by any standard. Homecoming and Cigarette Burns in particular stand alongside the theatrical work these directors are known for. A true gift to the genre.
Synopsis
Mick Garris organized Masters of Horror around a simple premise: give the most respected directors in the genre complete creative control over a one-hour episode. Two seasons ran on Showtime from 2005 to 2007, featuring work from John Carpenter, Dario Argento, Tobe Hooper, Joe Dante, Takashi Miike, and others. The practical effects work across the series is among the best produced for television during the decade.
