Amazing Stories 2020 is a gentler, more optimistic anthology than most of what surrounds it, which is both its most distinctive quality and the reason it sits closer to dark fantasy than horror on most nights. Production values are exceptional and a few episodes generate real emotional impact. It's not scary and isn't pretending to be, and within its own register it's consistently well-made. Worth your time if the original Spielberg series holds any affection for you.
Synopsis
Spielberg's classic anthology format gets a streaming revival with standalone episodes exploring science fiction, fantasy, and the uncanny. Tones and subgenres shift from episode to episode and none of them connect to each other. The production design and cinematography are consistently strong even when individual stories don't fully land.
