Why it’s HorroRated
Flanagan treats King's story with real tenderness, giving Carrie room to be funny, curious and painfully hopeful before the world closes in, and Summer H. Howell is extraordinary in the role. Samantha Sloyan, a Flanagan regular, makes Margaret White terrifying precisely because her faith looks like love. Moving the cruelty onto phones and group chats makes the bullying feel sickeningly current. Eight episodes give every character depth, and the dread builds toward the famous night with patient, devastating force.
