The Fall of the House of Usher is Mike Flanagan's most ambitious project and probably his most entertaining. Using Poe's works as the architecture for a takedown of pharmaceutical industry corruption is a brilliant idea and the show pulls it off with real style. The cast, including Bruce Greenwood, Carla Gugino, Mark Hamill, and Mary McDonnell, is exceptional across the board and each sibling's death episode is its own distinct horror set piece. One of the best limited series the genre has produced.
Synopsis
Roderick Usher's dying confession to a prosecutor who's spent his career trying to bring the family down unfolds the story across multiple timelines, revealing how the empire was built and how each of his six children met their end. Flanagan weaves Edgar Allan Poe's works throughout, with each episode drawing on a different story or poem. Bruce Greenwood, Carla Gugino, Mark Hamill, and Mary McDonnell are exceptional across the board.
