Castle Rock is what prestige Stephen King adaptation looks like when it's actually working. The show takes its time and trusts the audience to follow it, and the performances from Bill Skarsgård and Sissy Spacek in the first season are among the best the genre has seen on television. The second season is almost a different show entirely, but both have enough craft and real unease to recommend. Essential viewing for King fans.

Synopsis

Set in Stephen King's fictional Maine town, this anthology weaves together characters and locations from across his bibliography into new stories that expand and deepen the mythology. Season one follows a mysterious prisoner whose existence in Shawshank has implications for the whole town. Season two shifts entirely, centering on Annie Wilkes and the town's connection to the Salem's Lot mythology.
