Why it’s HorroRated
Evil is a smarter show than it gets credit for. The procedural format gives it an accessibility that pulls in wider audiences but the mythology building underneath is ambitious in ways most horror TV doesn't bother with. Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi have a chemistry that carries the show through its weaker episodes and the three-lead dynamic works really well. It takes its subject matter seriously without being heavy-handed about it. Worth it for anyone who wants horror with some intellectual weight.
Synopsis
Dr. Kristen Bouchard, priest-in-training David Acosta, and tech contractor Ben Shakir assess cases of alleged miracles, possessions, and supernatural events for the Catholic Church. Every case sits in the space between clinical explanation and genuine mystery, and the show is smart enough to never fully resolve which side is right. The longer it runs, the stranger and more interesting the mythology gets.
