Why it’s HorroRated
The Haunting of Hill House is one of the best horror series ever made and Mike Flanagan's finest work. The structure, weaving between the family's traumatic childhood in the house and their damaged adult lives, is handled with a precision that makes every revelation feel earned. The performances across the entire cast are extraordinary and the show uses its haunted house setting to say something real about grief, addiction, and what families do to survive each other. Episode six, Two Storms, alone is worth the entire run.
Synopsis
The Crain family is followed across two timelines: their summer in Hill House as children where something happened that none of them fully understands, and their damaged adult lives twenty years later where the past keeps pulling them back. Mike Flanagan directs several episodes himself and gives the series a formal rigor rare in horror television. The ghosts are everywhere if you know where to look, and the emotional core is as devastating as anything the genre has produced.
