Chilling Adventures of Sabrina commits to its premise with more confidence than most supernatural teen shows manage. The Dark Lord mythology and the Church of Night give the show a genuine occult horror backbone rather than the softer supernatural aesthetics that usually accompany this territory. It gets wilder as it goes, for better and worse, but the first two parts in particular are impressively dark for what's essentially a YA adaptation. A solid recommendation for anyone who wants their teen horror with actual teeth.
Synopsis
Sabrina Spellman turns sixteen and faces a choice between her mortal life with her human friends and full initiation into the Church of Night and the dark magic her family practices. The show builds a detailed occult mythology around her and populates it with creatures and rituals drawn from real folklore. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa adapts the comic with a tone closer to Rosemary's Baby than Bewitched.
