Why it’s HorroRated
Yellowjackets is a survival horror series that's also a mystery, a character study, and a dark coming-of-age story all at once, and it manages all of them. The dual timeline structure keeps both threads equally compelling and the ensemble in both timelines is excellent. The show is patient and confident and takes its time building the relationships before it starts dismantling them. A strong pick for anyone who wants horror television that treats its characters as actual people.
Synopsis
Two timelines run in parallel: 1996, when a high school girls soccer team crashes in the remote wilderness and has to survive an increasingly brutal winter by any means necessary, and the present day, where the adult survivors keep secrets about what happened out there. Each timeline deepens the other. The horror isn't only in the wilderness — it's in what people become and what they'll do to keep that buried.
